The Vocabulary Task Force of the HIT Standards Committee is hard at work specifying the vocabularies and codesets that should be publicly available to accelerate certification and meaningful use efforts.

Code Changes
Approximately about 130 new diagnosis codes will become effective on October 1, 2010. Most of these new additions are found in Chapter 16 under symptoms involving the respiratory and digestive systems, in chapter 17 for injuries and poisoning, and in Chapter 14 among the codes for conginital anomalies of female genital organs. Substantial number of changes were made to the supplementary classification chapter. About 55 new V codes are effective from October 1, 2010.

These Include:
• New Injury and Poisoning Codes
• New Signs and Symptoms Codes
• Expanded Avian and H1N1 Codes
• New Congenital Anomaly Codes
• New V Codes
